An abundant number of humpback whales come to Frederick Sound to feed in the summer months before heading south to warmer water in the winter. It is not uncommon to see 20 to 30 whales on a given day! Spend a day (or two!) with us watching these amazing whales and other marine wildlife.
LeConte Glacier is the southernmost tidewater glacier in North America. It is very active and is constantly fracturing, calving and filling the bay with hundreds of icebergs. The 12 mile-long fjord leading to the glacier is a magical place to explore with its thundering waterfalls, hidden coves and 2500 foot rock walls polished by the ice.
Our photography tours are designed for photographers, videographers and other guests particularly interested in taking advantage of the beautiful lighting, landscapes and wildlife abundant in Southeast Alaska!
We will share our years of experience to help you get aligned for that perfect shot and give you extra pointers on photographing Alaska’s magnificent wildlife and landscapes. We also specialize in creating custom charters for professional photographers and film production crews. We love providing support and sharing our local knowledge about Southeast Alaska!
Are you interested in creating your own custom trip? Let us help you design the trip of your dreams! The possibilities are endless… Wildlife and whale watching, photography, beachcombing, access to hiking and biking trails, US Forest Service cabins and more! We can also transport you and your gear (including camping gear, kayaks, bicycles and paddleboards) by powerboat to various beautiful and scenic locations around Petersburg, Alaska and the Frederick Sound area.

About FauneVoyage Tours
Each tour is personally led by Captain Kelly. Along with seeing the sights she will educate you on the natural history of this incredible area. Feel free to ask lots of questions during your trip—she’s always happy to share knowledge about the area or tell you about life in Petersburg, Alaska!
USCG licensed captain, naturalist, filmmaker, photographer...
I’ve lived on or near the water since childhood and have spent the majority of my years boating.
Greeter, deckhand and mate...
Of all the wildlife and things to see from the boat, Jax’s favorite activity is watching icebergs!
Kelly Bakos initially started a water taxi service called Kupreanof Kab to run visitors between Petersburg and the Kupreanof State Dock for hiking excursions. Over the years she expanded access to farther destinations and also offered day tours. As FauneVoyage Tours, we now offer small, private group adventures in the heart of the breathtaking Tongass National Forest and specialize in supporting scientists, photographers and filmmakers.
We offer tours to LeConte Glacier Fjord with its icebergs and towering cliffs and to Frederick Sound to see humpback whales and other marine mammals. We’re always interested in new adventures so if you don’t find what you’re looking for please give us a call and let’s do it! We offer custom tours and water taxi services throughout the Frederick Sound area.
We also specialize in supporting scientists and professional film crews. From transportation and chase boats to providing location scouting and a filming platform, we have you covered. Plus, your captain is an award-winning cinematographer living and working year-round in Southeast Alaska with the expertise to help you get the footage you need.
As you’ve probably gathered, we are passionate about this gorgeous, special part of the world. Kelly has a B.S. in Wildlife Biology and is very involved with the Petersburg Marine Mammal Center (she is the Executive Director), which is part of the North Pacific Marine Mammal Stranding Response Network.
Our organization supports researchers who come to study the whales, leads marine science education programs, and assists stranded and entangled marine mammals. In the shoulder and off-season, Kelly switches hats and is an award-winning wildlife filmmaker. Southeast Alaska is her playground, and she loves to share it with visitors!
About the Boat
We use a 26-foot welded aluminum boat with a heated cabin and 250 horsepower outboard to quickly and safely get to the best areas. It’s an all-around good vessel for both comfort during tours and getting us into tight spots for water taxi drop-offs. This boat has comfortable seating, large windows, custom kayak storage and ample stern space for both sightseeing and gear storage. We can comfortably transport up to six guests and their gear for an adventure of a lifetime!
We’re pretty good naturalists, but the boat has a complete library if we can’t answer your questions. We limit our tours to private parties of up to 6 people so you’ll always have the ear of the captain and will never have to fight for the best view or a good seat!!
