This is a full day tour to view humpback whales and other marine mammals in Frederick Sound! During the summer the whales are here to eat (a thousand pounds a day!) so the whales are always moving around looking for the most concentrated schools of food. It’s not uncommon to see 20 to 30 whales. The boat is equipped with a hydrophone so we can listen to the whales as well as watch!
We sometimes also spot orcas, porpoises, sea lions, harbor seals, eagles and a variety of sea birds. Along the shoreline, we keep an eye out for bears, moose, deer and wolves.
We limit our tours to private groups of up to 6 guests for a personalized experience. All tours include tons of natural history information!
Our tours often stop at a beach for a stretch break or lunch stop.
SPECIAL NOTE: Due to the rising fuel costs, there may be a fuel surcharge that will be calculated and added to your subtotal on the day of your trip.
The boat departs from the Middle Harbor. We meet at the top of the ramp and walk down to the boat together.

Our itinerary is flexible, and we will travel by powerboat to wherever the whales are feeding in Frederick Sound! In addition to humpback whales, we may see sea lions, seals, porpoises, orcas, and a variety of sea birds. Depending on the tides and day, we may also stop at a beach to stretch our legs or take a tour around the Five Fingers Islands to view the lighthouse. Let us know if you’re on the lookout for anything in particular!
We will meet at the Middle Boat Harbor at 9:00am for a prompt departure.
We will return to Petersburg Harbors by 5:00pm.
